The Quiet Gardens

By Violet Jacob

The quiet gardens lie alane, The weans are far awa, The roses droop wi' the simmer rain, An' the wee birds, tae, an' a'. The quiet gardens wait their day, The sun gaes west awa, But the hert that bides in the quiet place, It hears nae sound ava. For the quiet gardens are fu' o' dreams, Wi' a joy that's left them sair, An' the hert that kens the quiet ways, It will find its hame nae mair.
