By Violet Jacob

O, the quiet hert is a lichtsome thing, It smiles at care and wae, An' it sings a sang that the warld canna ding, As it daurna sing itsel'. The quiet hert it gaes its lane, Nor fashes wi' warld's gear, It kens the joy o' the sun an' the rain, An' it sings wi'oot a tear. For the quiet hert it bides its lane, Wi' a lichtsome sang on the lea, An' it finds its hame in the thochts o' hame, Wi' the sun gaun doon the sea.
