The Shadow of Life

Author: George MacDonald

The shadow of life is passing,
Swiftly, silently away.
The joys we cherish are fading,
And the night is closing the day.

The shadow of life is fleeting,
Like a dream that comes and goes.
The hopes we cling to are slipping,
And the heart is full of woes.

The shadow of life is vanishing,
Like the mist before the sun.
The days we treasure are leaving,
And the race is almost run.

The shadow of life is ending,
With the setting of the sun.
The soul is gently ascending,
To the home where life is won.
